Venues and public activities
The programme covered Matsumoto Station and its east-west passage, the Matsumoto vehicle base, the Alps-exit technical-unit area and the castle-exit square. Each area had different activities and hours.
| Announced activity | Hours on October 4 | Conditions in the notice |
|---|---|---|
| Station-name railway quiz | 10:00-15:00; reception until 14:30 | Reception opposite the ticket gates, next to the tourist information office |
| Massage in the east-west passage | 10:00-12:00 and 13:00-15:00 | Free; first-come guidance |
| Boccia experience | 11:00-14:00; reception until 12:00 | Two or three people per mini-game |
| Alps-exit technical area | 11:00-15:00 | Rain cancellation; high-access work-vehicle experience for elementary-school age and above, accompanied by an adult |
The technical area also announced signal displays, rail-lifting, VR and a simulated level crossing. The notice warned that VR footage included a train-contact scene. It did not describe every activity or merchandise purchase as free.
Azusa departure ceremony: one family
The paid departure-ceremony experience was announced for one family with a child of elementary-school age or younger, with parental accompaniment. It was linked to Azusa 18, scheduled to depart at 10:10, and cost ¥3,000 including tax.
The child could wear a stationmaster uniform and perform a simulated departure signal. Qualified JR East staff controlled the actual railway signals. The experience did not authorize a child to control train movements.
Vehicle-base experience: twenty groups
The separate vehicle-base programme listed 20 groups, divided into ten at 11:00 and ten at 13:40, each lasting about 80 minutes. Its announced fee was ¥6,000 including tax. Listed activities included an E353 tilting demonstration, E127 driving-equipment operation, component displays, conductor-style door and announcement experiences, and a Rail Star ride.
- Each elementary-school-aged-or-younger participant needed at least one accompanying adult aged 18 or over.
- Up to three accompanying people per participant could enter without their own participation fee. They could not independently join the experiences or move around the base away from the participant.
- Because of steps, narrow passages and evacuation constraints, the announced conditions excluded visitors needing assistance with movement, including wheelchair users. This was a restriction of the base experience; the release did not provide a complete accessibility assessment of all festival venues.
- The base had no lockers or luggage storage. The notice called for small bags and suitable clothing and shoes.
- Tripods and ladders were prohibited. Photography could be restricted in some areas, and the notice asked visitors not to post photographs or videos from the base on social media.
Closed applications and historical payment terms
The two paid experiences used separate application forms. Their application period was August 31, 2026 at 10:00 to September 14 at 18:00, with a lottery if oversubscribed. That period is closed; the old forms are not current application links.
Selected participants were to receive an invitation stating the meeting time and place. The conditions required the invitation, including a digital copy, and identification; late arrival was not accepted. Participation fees were payable at reception by transport IC card such as Suica. These rules concern the specified paid experiences, rather than every purchase at the festival or ordinary rail travel.
Castle-exit square and programme changes
The square's booths announced railway goods, books and limited food items. One LED-display photo experience cost ¥500 including tax. Sales opened at 10:00, with no waiting or queuing beforehand in the public space. Stock was limited.
The release warned that train disruption, major delays or weather could lead to changes or cancellation. This archive does not confirm attendance, lottery results, the final programme or a future festival date.

Frequently asked questions
Can I attend the festival without applying in advance?
The announced station and square activities were separate from the two paid experiences that required advance applications. Their individual hours and conditions differed. The October 4, 2026 festival date is now past, so this archive is not an invitation to attend or a current application offer.
What payment methods are accepted for the paid experience events?
For the Azusa departure ceremony and vehicle-base experience, the notice specified payment at reception by transport IC card such as Suica. The announced fees were ¥3,000 and ¥6,000 respectively. These historical rules do not establish cash or card acceptance at every merchandise booth.
Are there any events suitable for very young children?
The Azusa ceremony accepted one family with a child of elementary-school age or younger, accompanied by a parent. The vehicle-base conditions required an adult aged 18 or over for each elementary-school-aged-or-younger participant. Other activities had their own limits; the high-access work-vehicle experience required elementary-school age or above with an adult. These past conditions do not guarantee suitability for every young child.
Is the Vehicle Base Experience accessible for visitors with disabilities?
The vehicle-base conditions excluded visitors needing assistance with movement, including wheelchair users, because of steps, narrow passages and emergency evacuation constraints. Do not assume that experience was accessible. The announcement did not provide a complete accessibility assessment for the station, passage or square activities.
Where exactly are the different parts of the festival held?
The announced venues were Matsumoto Station and its east-west passage, the Matsumoto vehicle base, the Alps-exit technical-unit area and the castle-exit square. Paid-experience meeting locations and times were to be given to selected participants in their invitations. The event date has passed.
When was Matsumoto Station Festival 2026 scheduled?
JR East’s August 28 notice scheduled Sunday, October 4, 2026, from 10:00 to 15:00. Individual activities had shorter hours. This is an archived announcement; it does not confirm that the programme ran unchanged.
Can I still apply for the 2026 paid experiences?
No current application is offered here. The announced application period ran from August 31, 2026 at 10:00 to September 14 at 18:00, using separate forms and a lottery if oversubscribed. Both that period and the October 4 event date have passed.
How many places and what fees did the paid experiences list?
The Azusa departure ceremony listed one family and a ¥3,000 fee. The vehicle-base experience listed 20 groups, ten in each of the 11:00 and 13:40 sessions, at ¥6,000. Each base session lasted about 80 minutes. These are historical announcement terms, not present availability.
