Sawayaka Walking Autumn 2026: Dates, Courses & Fees

Sawayaka Walking Autumn 2026: Dates, Courses & Fees

JR Central announced 79 Sawayaka Walking autumn courses for weekends and public holidays from September 12 to December 19, 2026. Participation requires no advance reservation or participation fee under the programme's published rules. You pay your own transport, meals and any admission charges along the route.

Information checked on October 11, 2026: This guide uses the full August 24 announcement, the official walking portal and its participant notes. Each course has its own date, start station and reception times. The cover is an illustrative rail-and-walking image, rather than proof of a particular course, dedicated train or accompanied tour.

Autumn 2026 dates and course choices

The announced season runs from September 12 through December 19, 2026, on weekends and public holidays. This does not mean that every route operates on every weekend. Choose a specific course and confirm its date and start/finish reception windows on the official Sawayaka Walking portal.

The August notice highlights these selections within the season's 79 courses:

Recommended themeNumber highlighted
Easy courses for beginners and families5
Local food9
Facility visits and field trips15
Nature6
Anniversaries3
Toyotomi-related history3

These are recommended subsets, not a complete breakdown adding up to 79. Illustrated examples in the notice include a food course starting at Higashi-Kariya on October 17, an anniversary course at Kachigawa on October 25 and a facility-visit course at Suruga-Oyama on November 1. Check the course portal for details and changes; these examples are announcement references.

How to participate: no advance reservation or participation fee

  1. Select a course. Read its date, start station, distance, estimated walking time and reception windows. Allow extra time for breaks and facility visits.
  2. Travel by public transport. The official portal asks participants to use JR or other public transport. Event parking is not provided, and it asks visitors not to arrive by car.
  3. Check in at the start station during reception hours. Receive a course map, limited to one per person, and begin walking.
  4. Follow the course at your own pace. This is not an escorted guided tour: the participant notes state that staff do not accompany walkers or provide assistance along the course. Routes and facilities can include steps, stairs and unpaved sections.
  5. Reach the finish within its reception window. If using the applicable app, scan the finish QR code to receive completion rewards. Outside reception hours, points and reward exchanges are not handled.

The programme's participation is free. Train, bus and boat fares, food, drinks and admission to facilities along a course are each participant's responsibility. An event map or app reward does not cover these expenses.

Prepare for the route and rail journey

Choose a route that fits your health and walking ability. The official participant notes recommend suitable clothing and shoes, preparation exercises and carrying your own drinking water. Estimated walking times exclude breaks and facility visits. Respect private property, avoid blocking narrow streets, take litter home and stop in a safe place before using your phone.

Check the actual train route and fare before departure. Transport IC cards cannot automatically be used for journeys crossing separate IC areas; the notes specifically warn against crossing between TOICA and other IC areas in a single IC-card journey, apart from applicable commuter-pass exceptions. Buy the appropriate rail ticket if the journey requires it.

If considering a nationwide pass for a wider itinerary, our JR Pass price and cost-comparison guide can help compare the pass with individual rail tickets. Confirm your particular trains and pass conditions; participation in a free walk is not a reason to assume a pass is necessary or that every train is covered.

Completion points and the 2026-2027 app transition

From April 2026, the programme uses the TOKAI STATION POINT (Tospo) app for a new reward system. The portal says that completing a course and scanning the finish QR code gives 10 S coins and a course-related digital stamp. Accumulated S coins can be exchanged for Tospo points or completion badges under the published rules.

The old Sawayaka Walking WEB app ends at the end of March 2027, including its participation-point awards and prize exchanges. The portal describes April 2026-March 2027 as the transition period. New old-system cards stopped being issued at the end of March 2026, and old WEB-app points cannot be transferred to the Tospo system. Existing users should check which system applies to them.

Completion rewards are subject to the programme's rules, reception hours and any applicable stock limits. The app process is a reward mechanism; it does not introduce an advance reservation or participation fee for the walk.

Changes, cancellation and refunds

Recheck official course information before traveling. Weather or other circumstances may change the programme, and seasonal flowers, scenery or events are not guaranteed. The August announcement states that if a programme change or cancellation leads you to cancel your trip, you must arrange any rail-ticket refund yourself, with the prescribed fees applying. It does not promise a fee-free rail refund because a walk is canceled.

The points rules say no S coins are awarded when a course is canceled. Check the course's current notices rather than treating the published season dates as confirmation that a particular walk will proceed.

It is JR Central’s seasonal programme of station-based walking courses. The 2026 autumn announcement lists 79 courses scheduled on weekends and public holidays from September 12 to December 19. Walkers receive a course map at start reception and walk independently; staff do not accompany them along the course.

Do I need to ride a JR Central train to participate?

The official portal asks participants to use JR or other public transport, states that event parking is not provided and asks visitors not to arrive by car. It does not state a requirement to buy a JR Central ticket solely to qualify for the walk. Pay the appropriate fare for the transport you actually use.

Is there a participation fee?

No advance reservation or participation fee is required under the official programme rules. Train, bus and boat fares, meals, drinks and admission to facilities along the route are your own responsibility.

Can international visitors join the walking course?

The sources checked do not state a nationality or residency restriction. International visitors should follow the same course, reception, public-transport and safety rules. The information checked is in Japanese and does not promise English-speaking staff or an escorted tour.

What happens if the event is cancelled due to weather?

Check the official course notices before traveling. The August announcement says that travelers must arrange any rail-ticket refund themselves if a programme change or cancellation leads them to cancel the trip, and prescribed refund fees apply. It does not promise a fee-free rail refund. No S coins are awarded when a course is canceled.

When are the Sawayaka Walking autumn 2026 courses held?

The announced season is September 12-December 19, 2026, on weekends and public holidays. Each of the 79 courses has its own scheduled date, start station and reception windows; the season dates do not mean that every route runs on every weekend.

The new system uses the TOKAI STATION POINT (Tospo) app from April 2026. The portal lists 10 S coins and a digital stamp for completing a course and scanning its finish QR code within reception hours. The old WEB app ends at the end of March 2027, and its points cannot transfer to Tospo. Existing users should check the transition rules and reward conditions.
